Citizens and authorities join hands at HLC Colony Canal in a powerful cleanliness drive
Ananthapuram: The second edition of Project Ananthapuram Mission Clean (AMC) made a powerful impact at the HLC Colony Canal, with more than 6,000 kgs of plastic waste cleared through a collective effort involving citizens, civic authorities, educational institutions and voluntary organisations.
The clean drive was jointly organised by Discover Ananthapuram, Rotary Club Ananthapuram, Aryan School, Ananthapuram Youth Forum and SR Defence Academy, under the leadership of A. G. Anil Kumar, founder of Discover Ananthapuram.
The second edition of AMC proved to be bigger, stronger and more impactful than its first initiative. In the first clean-up attempt, the team had successfully cleared nearly 5,000 kgs of plastic waste from the canal. Building on that effort, the second drive removed more than 6,000 kgs of plastic waste, highlighting the scale of plastic pollution accumulating in the city’s water channels.
A significant highlight of the second edition was the active participation of the Municipal Commissioner and his team. Instead of merely overseeing the activity, the Commissioner and civic staff joined the citizens on the ground and actively participated in clearing the plastic waste.
More than 140 citizens, ranging in age from 12 years to 70 years, participated in the drive. Students, youngsters, senior citizens, volunteers and members of various organisations came together with a common objective — to make Ananthapuram cleaner and greener.
The initiative led by A. G. Anil Kumar once again demonstrated the power of citizen participation. The organisers said the objective of Ananthapuram Mission Clean is not limited to conducting occasional clean-up programmes, but to build a sustained movement where citizens and authorities work together to identify and solve civic and environmental problems.
The participation of the Municipal Commissioner and his team alongside citizens also sent a strong message that cleanliness cannot be the responsibility of the government alone. When citizens actively participate and authorities extend their support, meaningful and visible change can be achieved.
The organisers expressed their gratitude to all the participating citizens, students, volunteers, civic officials and partner organisations for making the second edition of Ananthapuram Mission Clean a major success.
With more than 11,000 kgs of plastic waste cleared across the first two editions, AMC is emerging as a strong example of how collective citizen action can create a tangible impact on the city’s environment.
